TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team defeated the Coppin State Eagles 10-2 on Tuesday at Tiger Softball Stadium. The victory brings the Tigers record up to 11-13 for the 2025 season.
Key Stats:
- Cara Bohner hit 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs.
- Isabella Canesi hit 3-3 with her 4th HR of the season and the game ending RBI double.
- Taylor Broadbent and Briyana Wright each recorded a hit and an RBI.
- Cadence Williams started on the mound for Towson and pitched 4.0 shutout innings allowing 5 hits and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts to earn her 2nd win of the season.
- Alyssa Bostley entered the game with 1 out in the 5th and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings allowing only 1 hit.
- For Coppin State: Julianna Mejia and Giselle Ulloa both hit 3-3, Debra Hyde allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs over 3.0 innings of work in the loss.
How it Happened:
- Cadence Williams started on the mound for Towson and struck out the side around a pair of singles in a scoreless 1st inning.
- Debra Hyde started for Coppin State and only faced 3 batters in the bottom of the inning.
- A 1-out walk was William's only blemish in the 2nd.
- Cara Bohner and Isabella Canesi hit a pair of singles to lead off the bottom of the 2nd, Madyson Peters hit a bunt single and an error allowed Bohner to score. Another error later in the inning allowed Canesi to score to make it 2-0 Towson.
- Julianna Mejia hit a 1-out double in the top of the 3rd and Giselle Ulloa singled to put runners on the corners. Ulloa stole second and Mejia broke for home on Peters throw which went to Williams, who threw back to Peters to catch Ulloa stealing at home.
- Jenna Giattino was hit by a pitch to lead off the home half of the 3rd and Briyana Wright reached on a fielder's choice. Bohner then hit a double to score both runners and double the Tigers lead but was thrown out at third. The next batter Canesi hit a solo homerun to make it 5-0 Tigers.
- Williams worked around a leadoff single in the 4th to keep the Eagles off the board.
- A pair of walks and an error loaded the bases for Towson in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back fielder's choices from Taylor Broadbent and Wright each scored a run, then Bohner hit her second 2-run double in as many innings to push Towson's lead to 9-0.
- In the top of the 5th, three straight Coppin State singles by Mejia, Ulloa and Brooklyn Tapusoa scored the Eagles first run, Ulloa later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-2 and send the game to the 6th inning.
- Tatjana Harris sent the Towson down in order in the bottom of the inning.
- Alyssa Bostley only saw 3 batters in the top of the 6th after an interference call rule Kylee Sandino out at first to end the inning.
- Jenna Giattino drew a leadoff walk in the home half and Briyana Wright singled with one out to put a runner in scoring position. A groundout moved the runners over and with 2 outs Canesi hit a double into the right center gap to end the game in the 6th inning by a final score of 10-2.
