Softball Drops Final DeMarini Tiger Clash Game

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team played its fourth game of the DeMarini Tiger Clash on Saturday. The Tigers lost 10-6 to the Bryant Bulldogs to drop Towson to 2-2 this weekend and 5-10 overall to begin its 50th season.
 
Due to forecasted freezing temperatures, the three remaining games in the DeMarini Tiger Clash scheduled for Sunday, March 2 have been cancelled.
 
Key Stats:
  • Kaci Benton hit her first collegiate homerun and had 2 RBIs.
  • Cara Bohner recorded 2 hits and an RBI.
  • Elizabeth Yoskowitz hit 2-3.
  • Kristin Toland and Grace Franczyk both had a hit and an RBI.
  • Addie Ferguson, Mackenzie Gorczyca and Alyssa Myint all picked up hits.
  • Olivia Trombley started for Towson pitching 3.1 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs. Cadence Williams receives the loss after throwing 1.2 innings allowing one hit and one run.
  • For Bryant: Faith Valenzuela and Bryce Clendenin had a pair of hits and RBIs each. Sam Rowher and Amira Rainer also had both a hit and a RBI. Maddy Wachter started on the mound and allowed 5 hits and 3 runs over 3.0 innings, Brooke Tracy threw a hitless 7th inning to end the game.
 
How it Happened:
  • With one out and a runner on first in the top of the 1st, Bryce Clendenin singled and an outfield error allowed Faith Valenzuela to come all the way around to score and put Bryant up early.
  • Olivia Trombley picked up a strikeout in a 1-2-3 second inning.
  • Bryant struck again in the 3rd, Valenzuela lead off with a walk and later scored from a Rohwer RBI single. Rohwer then scored from an Amira Rainer single. To make it 3-0 Bulldogs.
  • Alyssa Myint reached on a fielder's choice and the next batter Kaci Benton hit a 2-run homerun to cut the lead to one.
  • Bryant put runners on the corners with one out in the fourth, a Valenzuela single scored one and a Clendenin single scored two more to make it 6-2 Bryant.
  • Cara Bohner hit a leadoff double in the fourth and scored on an RBI single by Grace Franczyk to get a run back.
  • An error and a pair of walks loaded the bases for Bryant with one out in the 5th, Cadence Williams limited the damage to one run on a Makenna Coleman sac fly, the score was now 7-3.
  • Elizabeth Yoskowitz hit a 2-out single in the bottom of the 5th and advanced to second on an error allowing her to score on a Toland single, and Toland would score from a Bohner single to cut the lead to 7-5.
  • In the bottom of the 6th, Addie Ferguson led off with a single later scored as Benton reached on an error to get Towson's deficit back to one.
  • But with runners on first and second with two outs, Valenzuela singled to make it 8-6, then both remaining runners scored on wild pitches to put Bryant back up four. The Bulldogs would close the game out in the 7th and beat the Tigers 10-6.

Towson is back at Tiger Softball Stadium on Tuesday, March 4 to take on Maryland Eastern Shore.
