Softball Wins Midweek Game Over UMES

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team defeated the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (UMES) by a score of 7-5 at Tiger Softball Stadium on Tuesday.

Key Stats:
  • Jenna Giattino hit 3-4 with 2 RBIs.
  • Cara Bohner is 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk.
  • Kaci Benton hit 2-3 with a walk and scored all three times she reached base.
  • Alyssa Myint hit an RBI triple, and Elizabeth Yoskowitz recorded a hit, an RBI and a walk.
  • Olivia Trombley earned the win pitching 4.0 innings of 2-run ball allowing 5 hits and 0 walks while striking out 3.
  • Amanda Medina earned the save pitching a hitless 6th and 7th innings and only faced 7 batters over the 2.0 innings.
  • For UMES: Clarke Calvin hit 3-4 with a pair of RBIs, Ella Falcetti had 2 hits and an RBI, Jaycee Holt recorded a pair of hits, and Makalah Clark and McKenzie Abiley each had a hit and an RBI. Kassidy Oneail receives the loss after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing 8 hits and 6 runs.
 
How it Happened:
  • Jaycee Holt led the game off with a single and stole second. Two batters later Clarke Calvin knocked her home with an RBI single. Calvin scored two batters later on a Ella Falcetti single to make it 2-0 Hawks. Back-to-back walks allowed a third run to score, and it was 3-0 UMES after the first half-inning.
  • Olivia Trombley entered the game to pitch in the top of the second and recorded a pair of strikeouts over a scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings.
  • After only mustering one hit through the first two innings against Hawk pitcher Kassidy Oneail, the Tiger bats woke up in the bottom of the 3rd. Kaci Benton hit a single to lead off the inning after a walk and a fielder's choice runners were on the corners for Elizabeth Yoskowitz who put Towson on the board with a single up the middle. One batter later the game was tied as Cara Bohner hit a 2-run single to right field to make it 3-3. Kristin Toland capped off the inning with a RBI triple to put the Tigers up 4-3.
  • UMES responded the next inning, a bunt single and a fielder's choice saw a runner on second with 2 outs. Back-to-back singles from Makalah Clarke and Calvin each scored a run to return the lead to the Hawks.
  • Towson returned the favor in the bottom of the inning also getting a runner on second with 2 outs. For the Tigers it was an Alyssa Myint RBI triple and Giattino run scoring single that plated 2 runs and made it 6-5 Towson.
  • Trombley worked a 1-2-3 5th inning behind a 6-3 double play from Myint.
  • Amanda Medina entered the game for Trombley in the after the 5th inning and threw a hitless 6th.
  • Kaci Benton singled to lead off the bottom of the 6th, Anaya Troy bunted her to second and Jenna Giattino hit an RBI single to double the Tiger's lead.
  • Medina threw her second consecutive hitless inning to earn the save and lock down a 7-5 victory for the Tigers.
 
On Deck:
Towson stays at home to begin Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Tigers host Stony Brook for a three-game set with the first matchup on Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
