Towson Completes Extra Inning Comeback vs. Northeastern in First Win at Friedman Diamond since 2016

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Towson University baseball team visited Brookline, Massachusetts to face Northeastern in the opening series of the Tigers' Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) slate.
 
The Huskies (12-8, 0-1 CAA) took an early lead with two runs scored in the bottom of the second. Brian Heckelman put the Tigers (8-15, 1-0 CAA) on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to left field. Towson tied the game in the eighth inning on an errant throw to first, scoring AJ Kolb from second. Max D'Alessandro supplied the heroics in extra innings with a solo home run to left field in the top of the 11th. Kyle Emmons retired the final three outs to secure the Tigers' first victory at Friedman Diamond since May 21, 2016.
 
Key Stats
  • Towson reliever Kyle Emmons (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, tossing two scoreless frames with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.
  • Northeastern reliever Jack Beauchesne (0-3) took the loss with one earned run allowed on two hits in 1.0 inning of work. Beauchesne struck out one.
  • Towson outhit Northeastern 10-5 in the game, with the timely home run coming from Max D'Alessandro in the 11th inning to secure the 3-2 victory.
 
How it Happened
  • Northeastern scored the first run of the game on Feinberg's single through the left side in the bottom of the second, plating Mussachia from second. After Feinberg stole third, Bozzo's sacrifice bunt added a second run for the Huskies.
  • In the top of the fourth, Taye Robinson doubled to center field and got to third on a fielding error. Brian Heckelman followed up with an RBI single to left field to put the Tigers on the board.
  • Andrew Luczak's final line was two earned runs allowed on three hits and two walks in 6.0 innings pitched, his longest outing in his two seasons as a Tiger. Luczak struck out a Towson career-high eight batters.
  • The teams combined for three hits in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings with no runs scored.
  • The Tigers tied the game in the top of the eighth inning as AJ Kolb scored from second on an errant throw to first by the third basemen.
  • No runs were scored over the final inning and a half to send it to extras.
  • After 1-2-3 innings in both halves of the tenth inning, the game went to the 11th.
  • Max D'Alessandro hit a one-out, solo home run to left field in the top of the 11th to give Towson its first lead of the day at 3-2.
  • Emmons retired three of four batters in the bottom half to earn the win in the Tigers' CAA opener.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • D'Alessandro hit his league-leading eighth home run of the season in just 16 games played. He is also tied for second among conference leaders with 22 RBI's. The junior extended his hitting streak to seven games, tied with Jordan Peyton for the longest streak this season.
  • Luczak went a Towson career-long 6.0 innings pitched and added eight strikeouts, also a Towson career-high.
  • Four Tigers picked up multiple hits: Jordan Peyton, Nich Francuzenko, D'Alessandro and Heckelman. Peyton leads the team with 12 such games this season, followed by D'Alessandro (5), Francuzenko (5) and Heckelman (4).
