Monmouth Tops Towson in Penultimate Game of Regular Season

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Towson University women's basketball team visited West Long Branch, N.J. Thursday night to face Monmouth in the penultimate game of the regular season. The Hawks (15-13, 10-7 CAA) held a two-point lead over the Tigers (9-19, 7-10 CAA) after a tightly contested first half before a 47-point second half cemented an 82-56 win at the OceanFirst Bank Center.
 
Aminata Diakite led the Tigers with 15 points off the bench. India Johnston finished with 10.

  • Deja Bristol and Diakite accounted for all of Towson's points in the second quarter. Bristol scored three on a layup and made free throw. Diakite had 11 with three triples, including two on back-to-back TU possessions with less than two minutes in the half.
  • The Hawks took a 35-33 lead into the locker rooms.
  • Khady Leye had the Tigers' first six points of the second half, with the final free throws in the sequence cutting Monmouth's lead to 42-39.
  • The Hawks closed the third quarter on a 21-7 run over the final seven minutes to take a 63-46 lead into the final quarter.
  • Monmouth held a 19-10 edge in the final quarter to go on to win 82-56.
