Softball Loses to Villanova

TOWSON, Md – The Towson University softball team fell to Villanova in its final midweek game of the season by a score of 16-0 in five innings.

Villanova – 24-20-1
 
Key Stats:
  • Villanova starter Maranda Runco earned the win allowing one hit over 3.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
  • Faith McCullough receives the loss after starting and pitching 2.1 innings and allowing ten hits and nine runs with a walk.
How it happened:
  •  Towson starter Faith McCullough allowed a one-out single in the bottom of the 1st and the next batter Maranda Runco hit a two-run homerun to give the Wildcats an early 2-0m lead.
  • Runco did not allow a Towson batter to reach base until the 3rd inning.
  • In the bottom of the 2nd, two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out for Ava Mahnken who singled up the middle to score a run, Isabella Canesi threw the runner from second out at home to stop another run from scoring. But the next batter Ava Franz hit a two-run single to make it 5-0 after two innings.
  • Paige Kostick hit a two-out single in the top of the third but the next batter grounded out to end the inning.
  • After a leadoff single in the bottom of the 3rd, Grace Reed hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-0 Villanova. After two more singles Cadence Williams replaced McCullough on the mound. A hit batter and two walks allowed two more runs to score before Elaina Wagner hit a two-run single. Reed then hit her second homerun of the inning bringing three more runs across making it 14-0. After another hit batter Brooklyn Ostrowski hit the third homerun of the inning to give the Wildcats a 16-0 lead.
  • The Tigers only managed one hit in each of the 4th and 5th innings as Sophia Mount closed out the game for a 16-0 Villanova win.
 
On Deck:
The Tigers play the final home series of the season this weekend as Towson hosts Drexel. Game one is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Friday.
