TOWSON, Md – The Towson University softball team played the first of a three-game series against Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) rivals Delaware. The Tigers fell to the Blue Hens in five innings by a final score of 19-0.

Towson – 23-27, 11-14 CAA
Delaware – 35-14, 21-4 CAA
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Amanda Medina receives the loss after allowing ten hits and twelve runs with two walks over 1.1 innings.
- Billie Kerwood earned the win for Delaware pitching 4.1 shutout innings allowing only two hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.
How it happened:
- Delaware struck first in the bottom of the 1st, a leadoff single and a walk put two on with two outs for Morgan Hess who hit a two-run single to open the scoring. After another single Ryleigh Thomas hit a three-run homerun to make it 5-0 Blue Hens after one.
- After Delaware starter Billie Kerwood retired Towson in order in the top of the 2nd, a leadoff single was followed by a Katie Scheivert RBI double. Another single brought up Sydney Shaffer who hit the second three-run homer of the game to make it 9-0. Two more singles and a walk loaded the bases and brought Faith McCullough out of the bullpen to pitch. Then Kristen Luzon hit a two-run single, another base hit was followed by Scheivert's second RBI knock of the inning. A run scoring groundout and a two-run single from Shaffer closed out a ten-run inning for Delaware who led 15-0 after two innings.
- Elizabeth Yoskowitz hit a one-out single for Towson's first hit of the game, Yoskowitz ended as the only baserunner for either side in the third inning.
- Delaware's leadoff batter reached on an error in the bottom of the 4th and after a sacrifice bunt Scheivert hit an RBI single followed by back-to-back RBI doubles from Chloe Blantz and Shaffer to make it 18-0. A walk brought Kayla Pilson in to pitch for the Tigers, a fielder's choice put runners on the corners before a wild pitch pushed the Tiger's deficit to 19-0.
- Towson couldn't close the gap in the top of the 5th and the game ended in a 19-0 Delaware win.

The Tigers and Blue Hens will play game two of the series tomorrow Friday, May 2 with the game currently scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
