$1.5 Million Commitment from Beynon Family Propels Towson Athletics Campaign for Excellence Past $4 Million Milestone

Gift proposed to name Beynon Family Training Complex in support of renovation to Towson Center Gym

Towson University proudly announces a transformative $1.5 million commitment from alumni John '73 and Robin Beynon '70 in support of Towson Athletics. The gift is slated to name the Beynon Family Training Complex and marks a major step forward in the athletics department's $12 million Campaign for Excellence, which supports a broader $38 million plan to enhance athletics facilities on South Campus. A portion of this gift also supports the newly established Student-Athlete Resource Fund, helping TU Athletics remain competitive while expanding NIL opportunities for its student-athletes.

"We are honored to contribute to a vision that reflects our deep connection to Towson and the opportunities it provides student-athletes," said John Beynon. "This university gave us a great education, and we're proud to give back in a way that helps ensure Towson Athletics continues to thrive for generations to come."

Lifelong supporters of the athletics program, the Beynons have held men's basketball season tickets for over three decades. John, who played basketball during his freshman year at Towson, now serves as President of Beynon Sports, the largest manufacturer and installer of athletic tracks in the U.S.

"This gift represents both our love for Towson and our professional commitment to creating high-quality athletic environments," said John. "It's incredibly meaningful to invest in a space where future Tigers will train, compete, and grow."

In November 2024, Towson Athletics received approval for Phase 1 of its $38 million capital improvement plan, kicking off the Campaign for Excellence to raise $12 million in private support. With the Beynon's leadership gift, the campaign has now reached $4.2 million, buoyed by other recent milestone gifts, including a $500,000 commitment during the Big Give (TU's one-day giving event) and additional pledges to name the Coach Carl Runk Lacrosse Suite and other areas in the Field House, which is scheduled for renovation in the 2025-6 academic year.

"We are deeply grateful to John and Robin for their incredible generosity," said TU Athletics Director Steve Eigenbrot. "Their commitment inspires momentum at a pivotal time for our program, and their leadership brings us closer to realizing our vision for the future of Towson Athletics."

Phase One of the Field House renovation at Unitas Stadium will update over 17,000 sq. ft. of the existing 53,000 sq. ft. facility and add 12,600 sq. ft. of new space. This addition will expand team meeting areas, create program-specific suites, and enhance the academic center. Renovations will also focus on upgrading the athletics training room, potentially adding up to 2,000 sq. ft. for medical support.

Phase Two will center on the newly named Beynon Family Training Complex, currently the Towson Center Gym. This phase includes a full renovation of the gym, which serves as the practice facility for several Tiger teams. Plans include 15,000 sq. ft. of indoor turf, two practice courts for volleyball and basketball, and improvements to the viewing area overlooking the gym.
