TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team played Stony Brook in game two of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.
Towson (17-30, 8-12 CAA) built an early lead, scoring one in the first, three in the second and two in the third to make it 6-0. After four hitless frames tossed from
Max Simpson, Stony Brook (22-22, 8-12) scored three runs on three hits in the fifth inning. The Tigers pushed the lead back to four in the home half before allowing five runs in the sixth, giving the Seawolves an 8-7 lead. TU fought back once more, scoring two runs on three hits in the eighth to retake the lead at 9-8.
Brett Seils recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to pick up his first win this season.

How it Happened
- Towson jumped out to an early lead, starting in the first inning on Jordan Peyton's leadoff home run to right field.
- The Tigers added three runs on three hits in the second, scoring two on Casey Bishop's double to right center field. Bishop advanced to third on a throwing error from the right fielder and scored on Peyton's sacrifice fly in the following at-bat.
- The Black & Gold pushed the lead to six in the bottom of the third, scoring two on Ben Nugent's single to right field.
- Three straight Stony Brook hits in the top of the fifth put the visitors on the board after going hitless through the first four frames. After Jackson's single to center field, Paulsen doubled down the right field line to score the first run. Azpilcueta hit a home run to center field on the following at-bat to cut Towson's lead to 6-3.
- The Tigers extended their lead to four in the bottom half. Brian Heckelman led off with a double and scored later in the inning on Brady Nathison's single to left.
- The Seawolves took the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on two hits, highlighted by Paulsen's grand slam to right.
- Towson retook the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Nugent's single up the middle and AJ Kolb's bunt single put runners on the corners after Nugent advanced to third on an errant throw during the play. Bishop tied the game with an RBI groundout to second base and Peyton's RBI single up the middle made it a 9-8 Tiger advantage.
- Brett Seils retired three of four batters faced in the final frame, with his lone base runner of his outing reaching base on a fielding error at second.
Inside the Numbers
- Peyton registered his 200th career hit as a Tiger with his solo home run in the first inning.
- Seils earned his first win of the season after tossing three hitless, scoreless frames. It's his first multi-inning scoreless outing of the season.
- Bishop recorded his second three-RBI game in his last three games played. He now has three games this season with three or more RBI's recorded.
