TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team played Richmond in the final mid-week home contest at John B. Schuerholz Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Towson (19-30, 9-12 CAA) built an early lead once again, scoring one in the first, two in the second and three in the fourth. Richmond (29-17, 10-14 A-10) responded, scoring one in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh to tie the game at six. The Tigers got one run back in the home half and
Brett Seils shut down Richmond over the final two frames to complete the 7-6 win.
Key Stats
- Towson reliever Ryder Jeske (1-1) earned the win, allowing one earned run on one hit and one walk in 1.0 inning pitched. Brett Seils earned his second save of the season after tossing 2.0 scoreless, one-hit frames to close the game. Seils struck out one.
- Richmond reliever Dylan Siesky (1-1) took the loss, allowing one unearned run on two hits in 1.2 innings pitched. Siesky struck out two.
How it Happened
- Brian Heckelman put the Tigers on the board in the first inning via a solo home run to left field.
- Towson added two runs in the second on Josh Janove's home run to left after Ben Nugent's leadoff single.
- TU added three runs on two hits and an error in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Jordan Peyton drove in two runs on a single to right field. On the ensuing at-bat, a double steal extended Towson's lead to 6-0.
- In the top of the fifth, a hit batter and two singles loaded the bases for Richmond. Jaffe knocked in the Spiders' first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to center.
- In the next inning, Wilga led off with a home run to cut the Black & Gold's lead to four.
- In the seventh, Jaffe picked up his second RBI on a single up the middle with two runners on. Two batters later, O'Brien tied the game on a three-run homer to right field.
- Peyton led off the home half with an infield single to short. Nich Francuzenko followed with a single to right center, allowing Peyton to take third. An errant throw on the relay advanced both runners, with Francuzenko getting to third after the throw went into the Richmond dugout.
- Brett Seils allowed just one hit over the final two innings to pick up his second save of the year in the Tigers' 7-6 win.
Inside the Numbers
- Jordan Peyton picked up his team-leading 18th multi-hit game of the season. He also finished with two RBI's, putting him in a tie at the top among team leaders with eight such games.
- Brett Ahalt extended his hitting streak to six games, the longest active streak among the Tigers.
- The Tigers have extended their winning streak to six-games, the longest such streak since May 1-8, 2011.
