How it Happened:
  • Appalachian State started the scoring early as inside the game's second minute, the Mountaineers earned a penalty corner, and Samantha Connors and Hadley Kuzmicky found Lise Boekaar who found the bottom corner to put the Mountaineers up 1-0.
  • Three minutes later Towson delivered a response as Bailey Masten got the ball at the top of the circle and assisted Arden Hunteman who scored to bring the game back level.
  • However less than two minutes later, Boekaar swept a ball in front of the Tiger net and Kate Richardson squeezed it home to return the lead to the Mountaineers.
  • With two and a half minutes left in the first quarter, Appalachian State earned a penalty stroke, Boekaar's shot went wide but the Mountaineers earned a corner and Boekaar assisted Sophia Baxter's goal to make it 3-1 Appalachian State after the first quarter.
  • Towson earned its first penalty corner of the game midway through the second quarter, but Ella Kaufman's shot was blocked.
  • A late Appalachian State chance in the second quarter was stopped by a Roos Wiarda defensive save and the rebound was saved by goalie Tessa Scheenstra, the 3-1 scoreline held into halftime.
  • A quiet third quarter found life with two and a half minutes left as Boekaar carried the ball into the top of the circle and her attempt at a second goal was denied by Scheenstra.
  • After two straight quarters passed without a change to the score, the Mountaineers increased the lead to three in the first minute of the fourth quarter as Boekaar carried into the left side of the circle and played a ball through to the right side of the net and Kuzmicky swept it home.
  • Another Mountaineer corner led to a shot that was knocked away by Scheenstra, but the ball fell to Boekaar who found Kate Richardson who made it 5-1.
  • Richardson's goal sparked a Mountaineer flurry as three minutes later Kassie Paul scored a sixth goal for Appalachian State, and less than two minutes after that Boekaar scored her second to make it 7-1.
  • A trio of Scheenstra saves kept Appalachian state from increasing the lead further as the game ended in a 7-1 Tigers loss.
