Field Hockey Drops Sunday Matchup Against Davidson

TOWSON, Md – The Towson University field hockey team lost to the Davidson Wildcats by a score of 6-1 on Sunday, August 31 at TU Field Hockey Complex.

Key Stats:
  • Tatum Dobbins scored her first goal of the season for the Tigers.
  • Arden Hunteman had an assist giving the Salisbury transfer a goal contribution in each of Towson's first two games this season.
  • Tessa Scheenstra receives the loss allowing six goals with eight saves.
  • For Davidson: Sib Naaktgeboren scored four goals, Eva van der Kool had a pair of assists, and Lourdes Wolf scored and assisted. Eleanor Larsen earns the win after allowing one goal with three saves, Avery Foster entered the game in goal for the second half and allowed zero goals with three saves.
 
How it Happened:
  • Only two and a half minutes into the game, the Wildcat's Sib Naaktgeboren received a pass at midfield and carried it all the way into the top of Towson's circle before scoring to give Davidson an early lead.
  • A few minutes later, Dakotah Trader was denied an equalizer by a Liv Goeke defensive save, the ensuing Davidson counter saw Lourdes Wolf find Naaktgeboren who scored her second goal to make it 2-0 in the first five minutes.
  • The Tigers would quickly respond as Anouk Westerink's pass found Arden Hunteman in the center of the circle who assisted Tatum Dobbins for a goal that cut the deficit in half.
  • Ella Kaufman was twice denied by Davidson goalie Eleanor Larsen in the final five minutes of the first quarter as the period ended 2-1 in the Wildcats favor.
  • Four minutes into the second quarter, Wolf stole the ball off the Towson defense and scored on the ensuing breakaway to make it 3-1 Davidson. That scored would hold into halftime thanks to four second quarter saves from Towson's Tessa Scheenstra.
  • Avery Foster entered the game in goal for Davidson to start the third quarter and quickly faced pressure as Towson won a corner one minute into the second half, Lydia Bennett's shot went wide but Towson retained possession leading to a shot from Hunteman that forced Foster's first save.
  • Midway through the third, the Wildcats earned a corner, Celie Constantine's delivery was laid off by Eva van der Kool to Naaktgeboren who completed her hat trick and made it 4-1 Davidson entering the fourth quarter.
  • Three minutes into the final quarter, van der Kool earned here second assist for Naaktgeboren's fourth goal to make it 5-1.
  • With seven minutes to play a Davidson Corner was delivered by Ava Mickel the ensuing shot was blocked and fell back to Mickel who scored push the lead to 6-1 which would go on to be the game's final score.

The Tigers remain home next weekend and welcome Lock Haven to TU Field Hockey Complex on Friday at 4 p.m.
