How it Happened:

  • The Dukes won the games first penalty corner in the final minute of the period and the ball was inserted to Alice Roeper whose shot hit the post as the first quarter ended scoreless.
  • James Madison took control of possession in the first half of the second quarter and Ava Drexler-Amy received a pass in the midfield and carried into the circle before her shot was swept away by Tessa Scheenstra.
  • JMU kept possession and earned a pair of corners, the second of which saw Roeper's shot saved by the foot of Scheenstra.
  • With five minutes left in the first half, Roeper received a pass outside the Towson circle and carried into and across the circle before placing a shot into the top of the goal to give James Madison a 1-0 lead.
  • James Madison earned a corner with three seconds left in the half, Roeper delivered to Maddie Tierney whose shot was saved by Scheenstra but fell right to Roeper who scored to double the Dukes lead entering halftime.
  • The Tigers came out aggressive to start the second half and Kaufman carried the ball into the Dukes circle and played around a defender before firing a back post pass that Olivia Miller tapped into the goal to cut the deficit in half.
  • James Madison responded and earned another corner, where Jola Ollrogge's shot squeaked through a diving Scheenstra's legs and was cleared by Lydia Bennett.
  • Towson would win back possession and start a break with Rosemarie Staal carrying through the midfield before finding Ava McConnell in the circle who's first time shot went wide of the near post.
  • Possession went back-and-forth in the final few minutes of the third quarter as a midfield pass found the Duke's Brynna Hill in the center of Towson's circle who turned and shot but was denied by Scheenstra.
  • The Tigers then won possession and started a break down the right sideline, and a crossing pass came to Staal in the circle but her shot went wide and the third quarter ended with Towson still trailing 2-1.
  • Towson found an early attack in the fourth quarter as Miller carried down the right sidline and into the right side of the circle before her cross found Bailey Masten whose shot was stopped by Schreiner.
