TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team opened Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play as it hosted the Northeastern Huskies on Friday. A fourth quarter goal from
Arden Hunteman made the difference in a back-and-forth game as the Tigers defeated the Huskies 2-1.

How it Happened:
- Both sides won penalty corner in the first five minutes but neither team managed to put a shot on goal.
- Midway through the first period, Anouk Westerink received the ball on the left wing and carried into the bottom of the circle before passing to the middle of the circle and getting the ball back for a shot that was saved by Northeastern goalie Arabella Loveridge.
- Towson kept possession and earned a corner, Dakotah Trader's delivery was controlled and passed across the circle to Westerink whose shot was saved by Loveridge, but Alaina Lomonaco pounced on the rebound and scored to give Towson a 1-0 lead which held to the end of the quarter.
- The Huskies quickly won a corner in the second quarter, and the delivery was laid off to Jess Garden whose shot from the top of the circle was stopped by Scheenstra but Northeastern were awarded a penalty stroke which Emilia Adragna converted to tie the game 1-1.
- Back-and-forth possession saw neither team put a shot on net for the rest of the half, and the game entered the break with a 1-1 tie.
- The first shot of the third quarter didn't come until there were only five minutes left when Northeastern earned a corner, ball again was laid off to Garden whose shot was knocked away by Scheenstra and Maya Prasad's second effort went wide.
- Towson earned a corner of its own in the final minutes of the corner, the delivery was laid off to Lydia Bennett whose shot went just wide of the far post as the game entered the fourth quarter still tied 1-1.
- The Tigers earned the first corner of the final period, Gianna Tripodi's delivery was stopped for Roos Wiarda whose shot hit the pads of Loveridge.
- A minute later Westerink took the ball five feet from the circle after a Northeastern foul and carried down to the bottom left sideline before playing a ball across the circle that Arden Hunteman slid in and tapped over the stick of Loveridge and into the goal to put Towson ahead 2-1 with six minutes to play.
- With four minutes left, the Huskies replaced Loveridge with an extra outfield player.
- Hunteman won possession with 90 seconds remaining and played down the left sideline before firing a pass to Ella Kaufman in the circle who was fouled before she could shoot into the open net earning Towson a penalty stroke, which Olivia Handelong shot just wide of the right post.
- Northeastern earned a penalty corner with one minute remaining and the delivery was played to Garden who played a 1-2 with a teammate creating an open shot from the center of the circle that was kicked away by Scheenstra and Towson held on for the 2-1 win.

Towson now has off Sunday and is back in action next Friday at 3 p.m. when the Tigers will host Delaware.
