Matthews Goal Forces Draw Against UMBC

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's soccer played UMBC to a 1-1 draw on Thursday with both goals being scored in the first half.

Riley Matthews scored the lone Tiger goal by slotting the ball into the lower 90 across the frame of the goal. Sydney Feiler regained possession in the offensive third and played Matthews through for the game tying goal.

The Retrievers got on the board first with a goal via a long through pass that allowed a one-on-one opportunity that they converted.

"We had a slow start and gave up an early goal. From that time on, we reorganized and took it to UMBC by outshooting them 23-9," head coach Katherine Vettori said. "Riley Mathew's first half goal with the assist from Sydney Feiler was beautiful. Goalkeeper Kalli Williams for UMBC came up with some big saves in the second half. We created chances and need to finish them, especially with 8 corners. We tightened up defensively in the second half and Jaelyn White and Sydney Lindeman had very solid performances."
