Offensive Outburst Leads Tigers to Victory

BOSTON – The Tigers earned their first CAA and road win of the season in the highest scoring game between Towson and Northeastern in the Pat Skerry era, leaving the Cabot Center with an 87-78 win over the Huskies.

"It's hard to lose a game shooting that well. We struggled with turnovers in the first five and last five minutes, which were choppy. For 30 minutes, we were sharp. We guarded the three and rebounded well and saw some growth this week with Tyler Coleman and Jaquan Womack," Skerry said.

KEY STATS
  • Four Tigers scored in double figures with Dylan Williamson (22), Womack (17), Coleman (15) and Tejada (14).
  • Womack's 17 were a new career high for him.
  • Williamson shot 10-for-15 and never stepped off the court.
  • Towson shot .607 from the field, a new season high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northeastern jumped out to an early 12 point lead, going up 14-2 after the first 4:31 went off the clock.
  • Towson answered with an 11-0 run to bring the score to within one point.
  • The Tigers took the lead at the 7:21 mark of the first half off a Tejada layup and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game.
  • Towson ended the first half on a 10-2 run, entering the locker room up 10.
  • The Tiger lead would get as high as 22 in the second half, with a 66-44 score at the 10:59 mark.
  • Northeastern attempted to fight back by playing full court defense on Williamson, consistently denying any pass to him and doubling him if he did receive the ball. This did allow them to claw back to within five late but it was not enough to make the comeback.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • This is the highest ever scoring game between these two teams in the Pat Skerry era, surpassing the Towson win on Feb. 1, 2014 at SECU arena. That game had a combined 159 points; this game eclipsed 165 points.
  • Tejada fouled out for the first time in his Towson career.
  • Towson outscored Northeastern in points in the paint 48-32.
