Field Hockey Loses at William & Mary

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University field hockey team lost to William & Mary on the road on Friday. The Tigers (4-7, 0-3 CAA) took an early 1-0 lead, but the Tribe (2-7, 1-1 CAA) equalized and took the lead in the third quarter to defeat Towson 2-1.

  • The Tigers attempted ten shots putting four on target and earned two penalty corners against eight shots with four on target and four penalty corners for the Tribe.
  • Delfina Larripa scored her fifth goal of the season.
  • Else Wismans tallied an assist.

Key Situations
  • 1st Quarter: Both sides attempted their first shot of the game in the fifth minute but failed to put them on target. With just over a minute left in the period Else Wismans assisted Delfina Larripa's fifth goal of the year to give Towson the first lead.
  • 2nd Quarter: The Tigers won the game's first corner five minutes into the second quarter, but Anouk Westerink's shot was saved by the Tribe goalie. Both teams earned a penalty corner in the second half of the quarter but couldn't get shots on target as the 1-0 score held into halftime.
  • 3rd Quarter: William & Mary tied the game at one less than thirty seconds after the second half began. The Tigers responded by creating multiple chances in the first ten minutes of the period with the best of them seeing Wismans denied by a save. However, the Tribe took control in the final five minutes of the quarter and scored with under two minutes left to take a 2-1 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • 4th Quarter: The Tribe earned a penalty stroke four minutes into the fourth quarter, but Riley Redding saved the attempt from the spot to keep it a one-goal game. Skylar Santucci was denied an equalizer with three minutes left and the Tribe saw the game out to defeat Towson 2-1.
