GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Towson University softball team played its first two games of the Purple and White Classic on Friday. The Tigers began the weekend with a pair of losses to Lipscomb and Bowling Green.
Game 1: Towson 4, Lipscomb 11
Key Stats:
- Alyssa Myint had two hits and a pair of RBIs.
- Kaci Benton and Grace Franczyk each had multiple hits.
- Amanda Medina receives the loss allowing six hits and eight runs in 1.0 inning.
- Chelsey Farthing pitched two hitless innings in relief.
- Courtney Sauer earned the win after pitching all 7.0 innings and allowing six hits and four runs (two earned) with three strikeouts.
How it Happened:
- The first three Tiger batters in the top of the 1st loaded the bases, and Addie Ferguson was hit by a pitch to give Towson the first lead. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Alyssa Myint singled to make it 2-0.
- A pair of two-run homeruns in the bottom of the first frame swung the two-run lead in Lipscomb's favor. A two-run double made it 6-2 after the 1st inning.
- Lipscomb led off the bottom of the 2nd with a pair of solo homeruns then loaded the bases with one out. Towson got the second out at home via a fielder's choice, but an infield single made it 9-2 Bison entering the 3rd inning.
- In the top of the 4th, Alyssa Myint reached on an error and later scored from another error to get a run back.
- Jessa Pieters pitched her second straight scoreless inning of relief in the 4th.
- The Tigers loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth but were only able to bring home one run via a Myint sacrifice fly making it 9-4 Bison.
- Three straight hits and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 5th scored two more Bison runs restoring Lipscomb's seven run lead.
- The Tigers failed to close the gap as Lipscomb earned an 11-4 win.
Game 2: Towson 2, Bowling Green 7
Key Stats:
- Taylor Broadbent had two hits and an RBI.
- Kaci Benton recorded a hit and an RBI.
- Olivia Trombley receives the loss after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing seven hits and five runs (two earned) with three strikeouts.
- Mackenzie Krafcik earns the complete game win allowing four hits and two runs (zero earned) with four strikeouts.
How it Happened
- With two runners on in the bottom of the 1st, an error allowed the game's opening run to score for Bowling Green. A single later in the inning scored two more runs making 3-0 Falcons after one.
- After a scoreless 2nd innings and top of the 3rd, a pair of doubles in the bottom of the third frame made it 4-0 Bowling Green.
- The 4th inning went scoreless; the first two Tiger batters reached in the 5th and a single from Taylor Broadbent and RBI groundout from Kaci Benton cut the Falcon's lead in half.
- The score held at 4-2 until the bottom of the 6th when a leadoff single and two-out double made it 5-2 Bowling Green. Two more singles added two more runs and it was 7-2 entering the 7th inning.
- The Tigers couldn't rally a comeback in the 7th sealing a 7-2 Bowling Green win.

Towson plays its final two games in Greenville tomorrow Saturday, February 14. The Tigers will face Bowling Green at 10 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. matchup against the Bison.
