TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-2 decision to
Fairfield Friday night at the Coppermine Bare Hills indoor facility. The match lasted three and a half hours.
Fairfield earned the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. After Towson's top pair of
Kiersten Tambe and
Chandrè Boshoff won 6-2, the other two teams lost close sets, including the number two team of
Gaia Montecchi and
Ashira Murray in a tiebreaker.
The Tigers (2-2) took a 2-1 lead after straight set wins by
Tamzin Pountney (No. 4) and Murray (No. 5). The Stags (1-4) regained the lead with victories on courts one and three. Montecchi, looking for her eighth consecutive singles matches win, had a chance to tie the match at 3-all, but dropped a heart-breaking three set loss at No. 2 – losing 14-12 in the tiebreaker. The sophomore had three match points during the third set.
