SWARTHMORE, Pa.- The Towson University women's tennis team defeated Swarthmore 5-2Saturday evening at the Michael Mullen Tennis Center. Swarthmore, ranked No. 22 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) NCAA Division III poll, won the Centennial Conference championship in 2025 and returned five of their six singles players from last year's lineup.
Towson earned the doubles point – sweeping all three matches. After Towson's top pair of
Kiersten Tambe and
Chandrè Boshoff won 6-1, the Tigers No. 2 team of
Gaia Montecchi and
Ashira Murray clinched the point with a 6-2 victory. Sophomores
Chloe Courtnage and
Sofia Anderson, playing on court 3, won 6-4.
The Tigers (3-2) took a 3-1 lead after a straight set victory by Tambe (No. 1) and a come from behind three-straight win from Montecchi (No. 3).
Tamzin Pountney (No. 4) clinched the match with a dominate win.
Murray (No. 5) earned her fifth victory in as many matches this season with a 6-4, 7-5 victory. She was 3-0 this week, not dropping a set.
"The girls did a phenomenal job today, bouncing back after a tough loss to Fairfield last night," Towson head coach
Jamie Peterson said. "We got off to a fast start, which I believe was necessary for us to win."
