WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University women's basketball team faced William & Mary at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon.
 
Towson (14-11, 7-6 CAA) and William & Mary (13-10, 6-6 CAA) were well matched in the first quarter as the Tribe went up 17-13 after one. The Tribe extended their lead to 17 at the half and 20 after three quarters, but the Tigers didn't go down without a fight. India Johnston and Thalia Shepard combined for 24 in the fourth quarter as Towson cut the deficit to four in the final minute. A late turnover and pair of fouls put the Tribe back up seven in with less than 10 seconds remaining as they went on to win 75-70.

• William & Mary out-shot Towson from the floor (48.2%-36.8%) and from deep (50.0%-21.1%).
• The Tribe scored 40 points in the paint while holding the Tigers to 24.

How it Happened

• Made layups from Masyn Marchbanks and Thalia Shepard, plus her free throw make, gave the Tigers a 5-2 lead early in the game.
• The Tribe scored six-straight to claim the lead at 8-5.
• India Johnston scored four points over the final minutes of the first quarter as William & Mary took a 17-13 lead after one.
• The Tribe pushed its lead to start the second, scoring the first 12 points of the quarter.
• William & Mary outscored Towson 26-13 in the second quarter, giving the Tribe a 43-26 lead at the break.
• The Tigers cut the lead to 12 early in the third quarter before a subsequent 10-2 Tribe run pushed their lead to 55-35 with 2:31 remaining in the third.
• The teams each scored six over the final minutes of the quarter, putting William & Mary up 61-41 with ten minutes to play.
• After a Tribe triple to start the fourth, Johnston and Shepard combined for seven-straight points over the next minute and a half, cutting the deficit to 16 with eight minutes remaining.
• Down 18 with 4:33 left to go, Johnston and Shepard scored 13 straight, pulling the Tigers within five with 53 seconds remaining.
• Towson fouled, and the Tribe's Mikeska hit both free throws.
• Marchbanks hit a triple down the other end to make it a four-point game with 11 seconds on the clock.
• Mikeska hit two more free throws and Monet Dance hit the back-end of her two shots after a Towson turnover, putting the Tribe up seven.
• Johnston was fouled in the final seconds and hit both free throws to finish her day with a career-high 31 points.
• Time expired off the William & Mary inbound to give the Tribe a 75-70 win.
