Towson Tennis Heads To Annapolis to Face Georgetown, Navy

Towson, Md. - The Towson University women's tennis team heads to Annapolis this weekend to play Georgetown (Friday night) and Navy (Saturday afternoon) at the Tose Family Tennis Center. The Tigers have opened the 2025-26 season with three wins in five matches.

Georgetown is 2-2 this season with victories over Howard and Marquette. Freshman Ruhik Bhat is 3-1 in singles for the Hoyas.  

Navy (7-4) has won three of its last four matches with wins over Mount St Mary's, Villanova and George Mason. Olivia Fermo, Nicole Fu and Peyton Amspacher-Philemon have all been named Patriot League Women's Tennis Players of the Week in a four-week span. Including the fall dual season, Fermo is 17-6 in singles play and 15-8 in doubles action, going 14-7 alongside Fu.

AWARD WINNERS
Chandrè Boshoff and Kiersten Tambe were named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Doubles Team of the Week by the league office on February 17 after posting a 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles the previous week. The Tigers' duo beat Mary Washington's Addison Felts and Natalie Kim (6-3), downed Fairfield's Sophia Harris and Sarah Liu (6-2) and defeated Swarthmore's Erin Lin and Lola Diaz (6-1).

PERFECT START
Ashira Murray is a perfect 5-0 this season. The junior won a three-set match versus Rider at the No. 4 spot in the lineup in the fall and has reeled off four straight victories on court 5 in 2026, including three consecutive straight set wins. She has now eight straight singles matches, dating back to last spring.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
With a victory over Swarthmore on February 14, head coach Jamie Peterson moved into a third place tie with Doug Neagle on the all-time wins list with 78 victories. Only Ken Volk (106 wins) and Peter Walten (86) have more coaching wins with the Towson University women's tennis program.

FALL '25 RECAP
During the fall semester, the Tigers played in four events and defeated Rider in a head-to-head match. In addition, sophomores Gaia Montecchi and Kiersten Tambe and junior Chandrè Boshoff qualified for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Championship in October.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
Half of the roster was born outside of the United States. Chandrè Boshoff hails from George, South Africa, which is 8,100 miles from campus. Gaia Montecchi is a native of Bango a Ripoli, Italy which is 4,300 miles from Towson. Ashira Murray and Tamzin Pountney were born and raised in England, 3,500 miles from campus. Chloe Courtnage is from Calgary, Canada, which is 2,300 miles away. 

DID YOU KNOW?
Towson head coach Jamie Peterson was two-time team captain on the Towson men's tennis team from 1991-95 and finished his career with a 64-35 record, the fourth-most wins and fourth-best winning percentage in program history. He led the Tigers to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship in 1993 and 1994.
