Baseball Falls to New Mexico State, Setting Up Sunday Rubber Match

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Towson University baseball team faced New Mexico State on Saturday night at Presley Askew Field in game two of a three-game weekend series.
 
Towson (3-2) score two in the top of the first before New Mexico State (1-4) mirrored it in the home half. The Aggies took a two-run lead in the sixth, before a Tiger run in the next frame cut it in half. The Aggies added three in the bottom half to go up 7-3. New Mexico State added two more in the eighth and the Tigers didn't score in the ninth, giving the Aggies a 9-3 win in their own field.
 
Key Stats:
  • New Mexico State reliever Connor Wylde (1-0) earned the win after allowing one earned run on two hits in 2.2 innings of work. Wylde struck out one and walked one.
  • Towson reliever Ryder Jeske (0-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Jeske struck out three and walked two.
 
How it Happened:
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, Frank Adamski Jr. worked a walk to give the Tigers the lead. After a pitching change, Jack Hughes followed with a sacrifice fly to put Towson up two after the first frame.
  • New Mexico State evened the score in the home half on Rulli's two-run double down the left field line.
  • The Aggies went ahead with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth, taking their first lead of the series.
  • In the top of the seventh, Max D'Alesandro recorded an RBI groundout to bring the Tigers back within one run.
  • A leadoff home run from Solarzano and two-run double from Rogers pushed the Aggie lead to four at 7-3 in the bottom half of the inning.
  • New Mexico State tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, extending its lead to six.
  • The Tigers were held scoreless in the ninth, giving the Aggies a 9-3 win.
