Towson Loses Tight Defensive Battle

PHILADELPHIA – The Towson University men's basketball team (14-14, 6-9 CAA) dropped a defensive battle to Drexel (15-14, 9-7 CAA) on the road.

KEY STATS
  • Tyler Tejada played all 40 minutes.
  • Jack Doumbia Jr. played 30 minutes off the bench and led the Tigers with 14 points while also grabbing a team high six rebounds.
  • Towson committed half the turnover of Drexel, only turning the ball over five times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first few minutes of the game were played tight but a 9-0 run by the Dragons midway through the first half gave Drexel a 19-12 lead.
  • Early foul trouble from the Towson big men forced the Tigers to play a small line up for much of the first half.
  • Towson fought back, eventually bringing the game to within one, but Drexel went into the locker room up six.
  • The Tigers came out of the locker room and brought the game to within two points but another 9-0 Drexel run allowed the Dragons to get their first double digit lead of the game.
  • Towson toughness shined through as the lead was brought back down to one score with fewer than four minutes remaining on the clock but Drexel hit some key shots down the stretch to come away with the win.

  • Doumbia Jr. led Towson in scoring for the second time this season.
  • Towson moves to 0-4 on the season when no player pulls down at least seven rebounds.
NEXT GAME
Towson welcomes Elon to SECU Arena to start its last home stand of the 2025-26 season. In the first meeting between the two teams, Towson came away victorious 72-59 at Elon. It was the lowest scoring output for the Phoenix at the time and remains their lowest scoring game at home this season for Elon.
