GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Towson University softball team played its first two home games of the 2026 season on Friday. Behind big days at the plate from
Addie Ferguson and
Kaci Benton, Towson brought its record back to .500 with a pair of comfortable victories over Cornell and Morgan State.
Game 1: Towson 8, Cornell 2
Key Stats:
- The Tigers accumulated twelve hits and eight runs hitting only singles.
- Kinsley Peek and Addie Ferguson both had multiple hits and RBIs.
- Mackenzie Gorczyca hit a two-run single.
- Amanda Medina earned the complete game win pitching 7.0 innings and allowing eight hits and two runs.
- Madalyn Covelli receives the loss after pitching 3.2 innings and allowing nine hits and five runs.
How it Happened:
- Both teams' starters kept the game scoreless through two and a half innings before Addie Ferguson opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 3rd.
- The Tigers would look to add to the lead the very next inning as Towson loaded the bases with one out before a fielder's choice and Kaci Benton single each brought home a run to make it 3-0. Ferguson hit another single to make it 5-0 after four innings.
- Medina continued her shutout bid through the 5th inning. But Cornell got two runs back from a two-run single of its own in the 6th.
- The Tigers got the runs back as Mackenzie Gorczyca hit her own two-run single, and Kinsley Peek tacked on one more with Towson's fifth RBI single of the game and Medina shut the door in the 7th to seal an 8-2 Towson win.
Game 2: Towson 11, Morgan State 3
Key Stats:
- Addie Ferguson hit two homeruns and racked up four RBIs.
- Kaci Benton had three hits and a homerun with five RBIs.
- Rookies Leah Mears and Addison Miller both had multi-hit games.
- Olivia Trombley earned the win on the mound pitching 5.0 innings and allowing three hits and two runs with seven strikeouts.
- Serena Rodriguez receives the loss after pitching 5.1 innings and allowing ten hits and eight earned runs.
How it Happened
- Leah Mears led off the bottom of the 1st with a single before being doubled home by Kaci Benton to open the scoring. The next Batter Addie Ferguson hit a two-run homer to put Towson up 3-0 early.
- After a scoreless 2nd, the Bears got a run back with a solo homerun in the 3rd.
- Ferguson responded in the home half with her second long ball of the game to give Towson a 5-1 lead entering the 4th.
- A pair of Tiger singles brought up Kinsley Peek who hit a deep fly ball that was dropped by a Morgan State outfielder allowing both runners to score. Benton singled Peek home for her second RBI of the game to make it 8-1.
- Morgan State got runs back in the 4th and 6th innings but an Addison Miller double, Mears walk and Benton three-run homer ended the game in the 6th with a final score of 11-3.
