BEL AIR, Md. – The Towson University baseball team faced Canisius on Saturday night at the Harford Varsity Baseball Field.
Canisius (2-6) got out to a 4-0 lead over Towson (4-4) through their first three offensive frames. The Tigers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third but did not score after that, falling 4-2 in game two vs. the Griffins.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Liam Diehl (0-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Diehl struck out two and walked one.
- Canisius pitcher Mark Rogers (1-1) earned the win after tossing 3.2 four-hit, shutout frames. Rogers struck out four and walked one.
How it Happened:
- A Cox leadoff single, stolen base and Bremner single put runners on the corners for Canisius in the top of the first inning. Kaufman drove in a run on a fielder's choice, the Griffins' lone run of the first.
- Silliman's triple with a runner on first put Canisius up two in the second inning. Later in the frame, a bases loaded walk added another run in the frame.
- In the third, Silliman singled and stole second to get into scoring position. Brown drove in the run on a single to right, pushing the lead to four.
- AJ Kolb hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the third. Nich Francuzenko was hit on the following plate appearance to put two runners on. Kolb beat the throw at third on Frank Adamski Jr.'s bunt, loading the bases. Brian Heckelman was hit, putting the Tigers on the board. Two batters later, Keldrin Rodriguez singled through the right side, scoring one to add to the lead.
- All the scoring in the game was done by third inning, as there were 24 runners left on base in total.
