TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to
William & Mary in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opener Saturday at the Tiger Tennis Complex.
Ashira Murray remained undefeated – winning in straight sets. The junior defeated Rebeka Svabikova 6-4, 7-6 at No. 4 singles to improve to 8-0 this season. Dating back to last season, she has won 11 consecutive singles matches.
Gaia Montecchi improved to 7-1 with a straight sets on court 2, beating Tilda Larsson 6-3, 6-3. The sophomore has won 12 of her last 13 singles matches.
William & Mary (7-2, 1-0 CAA) won all doubles matches and earned victories in the other four singles matches. The Tribe made 10 consecutive CAA title matches – winning three consecutive league championships from 2022-24.
In the previous seven matches, Towson was swept.
"This was our best result ever against William & Mary," Towson head coach
Jamie Peterson said. "Progress is being made, but we can still play better. Ashira and Gaia were really strong in singles play."
