Franczyk Gets Hit 100 as Towson Softball Caps Off a 4-0 Weekend

TOWSON, Md.  – The Towson University softball team faced Morgan State on the final day of the DeMarini Tiger Clash on Sunday.  A 6th inning rally and Grace Franczyk's 100th career hit boosted the Tigers to an 8-4 win over the Bears to seal a 4-0 home-opening weekend.

Key Stats:
  • Kaci Benton had three more hits and two more RBIs to give herself nine of each on the weekend.
  • Grace Franczyk doubled in the 5th inning for her 100th career hit.
  • Mikaela Guy earned the win after entering the game in a 4-4 tie with no outs in the 5th and pitching 3.0 scoreless innings with a career high eight strikeouts.
  • Serena Rodriguez receives the loss after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing five hits and four earned runs.
How it Happened:
  • After Morgan took a first inning lead, a Kaci Benton RBI double, a wild pitch and an Addison Miller bases-loaded walk gave Towson a 3-1 lead after the opening frame.
  • Benton recorded another hit in the 2nd and was brought home by Mackenzie Gorczyca to make it 4-1 Towson.
  • Towson starter Amanda Medina and the Bears Serena Rodriguez both pitched scoreless 3rd and 4th innings.
  • Morgan State tied the game at four in the 5th and loaded the bases with no outs before Mikaela Guy entered out of the bullpen and struck out three straight baters to keep the game tied.
  • With two outs in the home half of the frame Grace Franczyk doubled and Isabella Canesi reached safely to bring home the go-ahead run.
  • After three more Guy strikeouts, Benton's second RBI double of the game and a two-run single from the next batter Addie Ferguson made it an 8-4 game entering the 7th.
  • Guy threw her seventh and eighth strikeouts as she closed out the game to seal an 8-4 win and an undefeated weekend.

The Tigers will play host for one more tournament next weekend as the Tigers welcome Central Connecticut State, UMass Lowel and Coppin State for the Towson Tiger Invite.
