TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team took on UMass Lowell and Central Connecticut State on day one of the Towson Tiger Invite at Tiger Softball Stadium. The Tigers improved to 6-0 at home to start the season as Towson earned 4-0 and 8-2 victories over the River Hawks and Blue Devils respectively.
Game 1: Towson 4, UMass Lowell 0
Key Stats:
- Alyssa Myint had a triple and two RBIs
- Isabella Canesi had multiple RBIs
- Olivia Trombley earned the win pitching a complete game shutout allowing two hits over 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts.
- Giana LaCedra receives the loss after pitching a complete game of her own and allowing three hits and four unearned runs over 6.0 innings.
How it Happened:
- Both starting pitchers carried no-hitters until the bottom of the 3rd when Addison Miller singled for the first hit of the game.
- A walk and a hit batter put two on with two outs in the 4th for Isabella Canesi who hit a ball that got through the River Hawk shortstop and allowed both runners to score. The next Batter Alyssa Myint tripled to make it 3-0 Towson after four.
- Trombley allowed only one hit over the next 2.0 innings.
- Another UMass Lowell error brought in Myint's second RBI of the game in the 6th.
- Trombley pitched a 1-2-3 7th to cap off her complete game shutout and a 4-0 Towson win.
Game 2: Towson 8, Central Connecticut State 2
Key Stats:
- Kaci Benton hit her sixth homerun of the season and had multiple hits and RBIs.
- Grace Franczyk hit her fourth homer of the year in a multi-hit and RBI performance as well.
- Addie Ferguson had two RBIs of her own.
- Jada Wade made her season debut and recorded her first Towson hit and RBI.
- Jessa Pieters earned her first career win after pitching 2.0 innings and allowing two hits and two unearned runs.
- Mikaela Guy earned the save after pitching 3.0 scoreless innings allowing three hits.
- Liz Hamilton receives the loss after pitching a complete game and allowing seven hits and eight runs.
How it Happened:
- After a scoreless 1st, Towson loaded the bases with no outs in the 2nd. A Jada Wade sacrifice fly put Towson on the board first with a 1-0 lead.
- Towson doubled its lead in the 3rd as Leah Mears was hit by a pitch and stole second before Grace Franczyk singled her home to double the Tigers lead.
- After the Blue Devils equalized in the top of the 4th, three walks loaded the bases for Kaci Benton who restored Towson's two-run lead with a single before Addie Ferguson hit a two RBI knock of her own to make it 6-2 Tigers.
- Mikaela Guy entered from the bullpen and pitched scoreless 5th and 6th innings.
- Benton batted again in the 6th and hit her sixth homerun of the season before two batters later Franczyk went yard as well to make it 8-2 entering the 7th.
- Guy shut the door in the seventh to earn a nine-out save and close out an 8-2 Towson win.
