Baseball Secures Comeback Win over George Washington

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Towson University baseball team faced George Washington on Wednesday afternoon in the Tigers' first midweek contest of the 2026 season.
 
George Washington (6-9, 0-0 A-10) got out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning over Towson (6-7, 0-3). The Tigers responded with two runs in the third, three in the second and two in the fifth to claim a 7-5 lead. The Revolutionaries added one run in the eighth, and put two runners on base in the ninth, before Matt Lynch retired the final two batters to earn his first save of the season.
 
Key Stats:
  • Towson pitcher Austin Perando (2-0) earned the win after tossing 2.2 shutout frames in relief. Perando allowed one hit and struck out five. Matt Lynch (1) earned his first save this season after closing the game with one earned run allowed on five hits in 3.0 innings of work. Lynch struck out five and walked two.
  • George Washington reliever Brad Marks (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs, three earned, on three his and three walks in 1.2 frames.
 
How it Happened:
  • George Washington got out to an early lead, scoring five runs on three hits and three walks in the bottom of the first.
  • Brian Heckelman hit a leadoff home run in the third inning to get the Tigers on the board. Later in the frame with one runner in scoring position, Keldrin Rodriguez hit an RBI single to left, cutting the deficit to three.
  • The Tigers tied the game in the fourth inning with three runs on three hits. Nick LoBello doubled down the left field line and, two batters later, Max D'Alessandro walked to put two runners on. Nich Francuzenko followed with a double down the right field line, driving in both runs. Frank Adamksi Jr. hit a single to center to score Francuzenko.
  • In the top of the fifth, LoBello hit an RBI groundout to short, giving the Tigers a one-run lead. Yariel Rodriguez scored on a fielding error later in the frame, pushing the Black & Gold lead to two runs.
  • Two doubles in the bottom of the eighth got the Revolutionaries back within a run with one inning to play.
  • The Revs put two runners on in the ninth with one out before Matt Lynch closed the door on their comeback chance, retiring the final two batters of the game.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Heckelman hit his fourth home run of the season and is tied for first among conference leaders in the category.
  • Freshman catcher Coy Allman recorded his first collegiate hit, finishing the day 1-2 with a run scored.
  • Vincent Salvo tossed 3.1 shutout frames in relief, marking the longest scoreless outing of his collegiate career.
 
On Deck:
The Tigers will head up to Massachusetts to face the CAA North Division favorite Northeastern Huskies at Friedman Diamond in a three-game series starting Friday at 2 p.m. Saturday's and Sunday's games are each scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.
