BROOKLINE, Mass. – In its first Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) road series of the season, the Towson University baseball team faced Northeastern in the first of three games on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
After Towson (6-8, 0-4 CAA) jumped out to 3-0 lead in the second, Northeastern (7-7, 3-1 CAA) tied the game in the home half and added three more unanswered runs over the next six frames. The Tigers went down in order in the ninth, giving the Huskies a 6-3 win at Friedman Diamond in the series opener.
Key Stats:
- Towson pitcher Aden Knowles (1-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks in 5.0 relief frames. Knowles struck out eight batters.
- Northeastern starter Robbie O'Connor (3-1) earned the win after allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks in 5.0 innings pitched. O'Connor struck out two and hit three batters. Andrew Basel earned his second save of the season after tossing 4.0 shutout frames. Basel struck out four and walked one.
How it Happened:
- Frank Adamski Jr. led off the top of the second with a single down the right field line. Brady Nathison was hit by a pitch on the following at-bat, moving Adamski Jr. into scoring position. Ethan Brand's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up and Yariel Rodriguez hit an infield single to short, driving in one before Nathison scored on a throwing error.
- Four walks in the home half brought in Northeastern's first run of the game. A sacrifice fly and infield single to short later in the frame allowed the Huskies to tie the game.
- Aschettino's RBI single to left field in the bottom of the fifth put Northeastern up 4-3.
- Cha and Aschettino each hit a home run in the eighth, giving the Huskies a three-run lead with one inning to play.
- The Tigers went down in order in the top of the ninth, giving Northeastern a 6-3 win in the series opener.
