TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team hosted Campbell on Friday afternoon in the first of three CAA games this weekend.
Towson (7-11, 0-7 CAA) and Campbell (12-9, 6-1 CAA) traded the lead for much of the early going before the Camels broke open the game with 16 runs over the sixth and seventh innings, giving them a 19-4 win in the series opener at John B. Schuerholz Park.
Key Stats:
- Towson pitcher Joey Tuttoilmondo (0-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on two hits and two walks in 2.2 innings of relief work. Tuttoilmondo struck out three batters.
- Campbell pitcher Connor Hensley (2-0) got the win after allowing one earned run on three hits in 1.2 innings pitched. Hensley struck out one.
How it Happened:
- Max D'Alessandro hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second to put the Tigers up early.
- Elijah Clayton led off with a homer of his own in the next frame to tie the game. Later in the inning with a runner on second, Morton singled to right, giving the Camels a one-run edge.
- Josh Janove tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to left center field.
- After a leadoff triple from Clayton to start the fifth, Lugo reclaimed the lead for the Camels on an RBI groundout to short.
- Keldrin Rodriguez and Brian Heckelman each hit singles with one out in bottom half, putting two runners on. Frank Adamski Jr. hit an RBI double down the right field line, scoring both to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.
- The Camels scored five runs on three hits in the sixth, most notably Jett Music's three-run homer to left center field.
- Campbell added 11 runs in the seventh inning to push their lead to 19-4.
- The Tigers were held scoreless in the seventh, giving the Camels a series opening victory with a lead of more than ten runs after seven innings.
