TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team played the second of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series against Monmouth on Saturday. A six-run 1
st inning proved the difference as the Tigers went on to bring the series even with an 11-4 win.
Key Stats:
- Alyssa Myint hit her second homerun of the season as part of a three-hit day.
- Kaci Benton added to her NCAA lead with her 17th double of the year.
- Three Tigers had multiple hits and four had multiple RBIs.
- Amanda Medina earns her fourth win of the season after starting and pitching 4.2 innings and allowing five hits and two runs with two strikeouts. Mikaela Guy threw the final 2.1 innings allowing three hits and two runs.
- Isabella Bonacci receives the loss allowing five hits and five earned runs over 0.2 of an inning. Carah Sumpter pitched 6.1 innings out of the bullpen.
How it Happened:
- The Tigers wasted no time and struck in the top of the 1st, Addie Ferguson doubled to put herself and Kaci Benton in scoring position with one out before Grace Franczyk, Mackenzie Gorczyca and Briyana Wright all hit RBI singles to put Towson up 3-0. A passed ball made it four before Alyssa Myint hit a two-run homerun to cap off a six-run opening frame for Towson.
- A leadoff single by the Hawks in the bottom of the 1st led to a sacrifice fly getting a run back for Monmouth.
- Amanda Medina worked out of a jam with a strikeout and a groundout in the 2nd, both teams went down in order in the 3rd.
- After the 4th went scoreless as well. The first two Tigers to bat in the 5th reached on errors. Franczyk moved both into scoring position before a Gorczyca groundout and Wright double scored both to make it 8-1.
- In the bottom of the 5th, a one out walk and double allowed a sacrifice fly to bring home the Hawks second run. Monmouth loaded the bases with two outs bringing Mikaela Guy out of the bullpen who ended the inning with no further damage.
- The scored remained 8-2 entering the bottom of the 6th, a pair of singles and a hit batter loaded the bases for the Hawks with two outs. A single to right field brought home a pair but Isabella Canesi threw out a runner at third to end the inning.
- Benton led off the 7th with a double and with one out Franczyk traded places with her to make it 9-4. An error brought home Towson's tenth run and Canesi hit a RBI single to drive in the 11th.
- Guy shut the door in the bottom of the 7th as Towson evened up the series with an 11-4 win.
