TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team faced Georgetown in a midweek match up at Tiger Softball Stadium on Tuesday. A 5
th inning homerun by
Addie Ferguson made the difference as the Tigers beat the Hoyas 4-3 to improve to 18-11 overall.
Key Stats:
- Addie Ferguson hit her 7th homerun of the season as part of a two-RBI day. Ferguson now leads the Tigers in homers and is tied for first in the CAA.
- Mackenzie Gorczyca had a multi-hit game with an RBI.
- Leah Mears scored a game-high two runs and hit her first career triple.
- Jessa Pieters earned her second win of the season after pitching 2.0 scoreless innings of relief allowing three hits with a strikeout. Amanda Medina started on the mound and threw 3.0 innings allowing four hits and three runs with two strikeouts.
- Mikaela Guy notched her CAA leading fifth save of the year after pitching the final 2.0 innings allowing only one hit with four strikeouts.
- Emily Collins receives the loss for the Hoyas after pitching 2.0 innings out of the bullpen and allowing one hit and one run with three strikeouts.
How it Happened:
- After Amanda Medina sent the Hoyas down in order in the 1st, the first two Tigers to bat reached on errors putting two in scoring position. An Addie Ferguson groundout and Mackenzie Gorczyca single allowed the Tigers to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
- Georgetown responded by loading the bases in the 2nd with one out, Medina got the second out but a double from the next batter cleared the bases and put the Hoyas up 3-2.
- The next two half-innings went by scoreless.
- Leah Mears led off the bottom of the 3rd with a triple and scored on a Kaci Benton single to tie the game at three.
- Jessa Pieters entered to pitch for Towson and threw scoreless 4th and 5th innings.
- With one out in the bottom of the 5th, Addie Ferguson hit her seventh homerun of the year to put Towson ahead 4-3.
- Mikaela Guy came on the pitch in the 6th and struck out four while only facing seven batters over the 6th and 7th innings as the freshman earned her fifth save and closed out a 4-3 Towson win.

The Tigers now hit the road and head north for the second weekend in a row. Towson will visit Stony Brooke for a weekend series with game one starting at 2 p.m.
