Softball Loses to Stony Brook in Walk Off Fashion

TOWSON, Md.  – The Towson University softball team faced Stony Brook in the first of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association series on Friday. The Tigers and Seawolves were tied at three entering the 7th where Stony Brook won with a walk off to take game one of the series.
 
Key Stats:
  •  Briyana Wright had a three-hit game with a double and an RBI.
  • Grace Franczyk had a multi-hit day.
  • Mackenzie Gorczyca and Alyssa Myint each had a hit and an RBI.
  • Olivia Trombley started on the mound for Towson and pitched 6.0 innings allowing six hits and three runs with a strikeout. Mikaela Guy receives the loss after allowing an unearned run over 0.1 of an inning.
  • Jayci Finch earned the win after pitching 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and allowing two hits.
How it Happened:
  •  Kaci Benton got things started with a one-out single in the top of the 1st, Addie Ferguson walked and Grace Franczyk singled to load the bases. A Mackenzie Gorczyca groundout and Briyana Wright single each scored a run to give Towson a 2-0 lead.
  • Stony Brook responded by loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first. An RBI groundout and a pair of singles all brought in runs making it 3-2 Seawolves after an inning.
  • The Tigers put at least one runner on base in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings but couldn't score the tying run.
  • Trombley pitched five straight scoreless innings between the 2nd and 6th.
  • Gorczyca and Wright singles followed by a double steal and an Isabella Canesi walk loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 6th. Alyssa Myint's sacrifice fly tied the game at three, but Towson was unable to take the lead.
  • A Ferguson single and Wright double put two in scoring position with two outs. But the Tigers would strand a ninth and tenth runner on base.
  • A pair of errors and a walk loaded the bases for the Seawolves in the bottom of the 7th and a grounder to short was enough to score a run and end the game with a 4-3 Stony Brook win.

Game two of the series between Towson and Stony Brook will take place tomorrow Saturday, March 28th with a 2 p.m. start time.
