TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team faced Stony Brook in the second of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series on Saturday. The Tigers fell 6-3 to the Seawolves to lose its first CAA series of the season.
Key Stats:
- Kaci Benton hit her seventh homerun of the year to tie Addie Ferguson for the team lead.
- Alyssa Myint hit her third homerun of the year.
- Six Tigers had a hit in the game.
- Amanda Medina received the loss after starting and pitching 4.0 innings allowing five hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts.
- Mikaela Guy pitched 2.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen allowing two hits with three strikeouts.
- Jayci Finch earned the win after starting and pitching 5.0 innings allowing four hits and three runs with six strikeouts.
How it Happened:
- Kaci Benton walked with one out in the top of the 1st, and with two outs Grace Franczyk doubled but Benton was thrown out at home.
- A leadoff double and Towson error put two Seawolves runners in scoring position with no outs in the 2nd. Both would come around to score making it 2-0 Stony Brook.
- After a scoreless 3rd, Mackenzie Gorczyca walked with one out in the top of the 4th and Alysa Myint homered to tie the game 2-2.
- Stony Brook retook with lead with a two out single in the bottom of the inning.
- Kaci Benton hit a homerun with one out in the 5th to once again tie the game.
- The Seawolves once again responded in the bottom of the inning by loading the bases with no outs. All three runners would score in the inning making it 6-3 Stony Brook.
- The Tigers put two on base with two outs in the 6th but couldn't close the gap, Stony Brook closed the game out from there to defeat Towson 6-3.
