Eleven Tigers Hit Safely in Lopsided Midweek Win over UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Towson University baseball team faced Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) on Wednesday afternoon at the Hawks' home field.
 
Towson (8-13) put one run up in the first inning before UMES (4-17) tied the game in the home half. The Tigers scored three, five, four and six runs over the next four innings to reclaim the lad at 19-1. The Hawks added four runs in the bottom of the sixth before no scoring in the seventh ended the game, 19-5, in midweek action in Princess Anne, Md.
 
Key Stats:
  • Towson pitcher Aiden Sites moved to 1-0 on the season after allowing one earned run on six hits and a walk in 5.0 innings pitched. Sites struck out a season-high seven batters.
  • UMES starter Elijah Benton (0-2), allowing eight runs, seven earned, on five hits and six walks in 2.1 innings.
 
How it Happened:
  • With Brady Nathison on third base in the top of the first, Frank Adamski Jr. hit an RBI single to take the early lead.
  • After hitting a leadoff single in the bottom half, Julian Jimenez scored later in the frame on a wild pitch to tie the game.
  • The Tigers reclaimed the lead in the second, scoring three runs on two hits. Nathison hit an RBI double to left center to plate the first run of the frame. Yariel Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch and Brian Heckelman followed with an RBI groundout, making it a 4-1 Towson lead.
  • After the two leadoff runners got on base in the third inning, AJ Kolb hit the first home run of his collegiate career over the left field fence, extending the lead to six. Heckelman and Keldrin Rodriguez each hit back-to-back RBI doubles later in the frame.
  • Kolb and Ben Nugent each picked up an RBI in the fourth as the Tigers scored four in the frame, pushing the lead to 13-1.
  • Ethan Brand started the fifth inning with a leadoff home run. After a flyout, consecutive hits from Cole Stefano, Coy Allman, AJ Kolb, Yariel Rodriguez and Brady Nathison added five runs added three more runs. Brand picked up another RBI later in the frame on a single through the left side.
  • The Hawks added four runs on three hits in the sixth inning to make it a 19-5 game.
  • With no runs scored by either team in the seventh, the Tigers took the seven-inning midweek win in Princess Anne.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • AJ Kolb had a career day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBIs, his first collegiate home run and two runs scored.
  • Y. Rodriguez a season-best day at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with two RBIs, two doubles and four runs scored.
  • Eleven of 14 Towson players to record an at-bat hit safely.
 
On Deck:
The Tigers visit Long Island this weekend to face Stony Brook in a three-game set starting Friday at 1 p.m.
