Towson Baseball Tops Stony Brook on Saturday, Setting Up Sunday Rubber Match

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Towson University baseball team faced Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon in the second of three games against the Seawolves at Joe Nathan Field.
 
Stony Brook (6-17, 4-7 CAA) and Towson (9-14, 1-10 CAA) traded the lead for much of the early going before the Tigers broke it open with four runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-4 lead. They added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth before surrendering one to the Seawolves in the bottom half of the inning. The 10-5 Towson win sets up a series rubber match tomorrow at 12 p.m.
 
Key Stats:
  • Towson pitcher Ryder Jeske (2-1) earned the win after allowing one earned run over 4.2 relief frames. Jeske gave up four hits and struck out five batters.
  • Stony Brook reliever Ty Panariello (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits in 1.2 innings of work.
 
How it Happened:
  • With two runners on in the bottom of the third inning, Nick Zampieron singled to right field, giving Stony Brook a one-run lead.
  • Frank Adamski Jr. hit a one-out single to center to put the first Tiger runner on base in the top of the fourth. Max D'Alessandro followed with a double to left, scoring Adamski Jr. from first. Josh Janove hit an infield single to third base, putting runners on the corners. D'Alessandro stole home on a throw back to the pitcher, giving the Tigers a one-run edge. After Janove advanced to second on a wild pitch, Ethan Brand hit an RBI double down the left field line, adding to the lead.
  • The next frame, James Schaffer singled to right with the bases loaded, scoring two and tying the game.
  • The Seawolves reclaimed a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth as Doughty plated Villani on a double down the left field line.
  • Janove hit a one-out double in the sixth inning to get into scoring position. Nick LoBello followed with a single to left, scoring Janove and tying the game at four.
  • The Tigers scored three runs on three hits in the seventh. The first run came by way of a bases-loaded balk, scoring Nich Francuzenko. LoBello followed with a two-run double to center. Two batters later, AJ Kolb singled to center to score LoBello.
  • Brady Nathison pinch hit for Keldrin Rodriguez with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth. Nathison hit a single into left, adding to the Tigers' lead. Brian Heckelman followed with a sacrifice fly into right field to make it a 10-4 lead.
  • The Seawolves plated one run in the bottom of the ninth before Jeske retired the final out for a 10-5 road win, setting up a Sunday rubber match at Joe Nathan Field.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • LoBello finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Jeske threw his longest outing of the season with his 4.2 relief innings.
 
On Deck:
The Tigers and Seawolves conclude their series tomorrow at Joe Nathan Field with a rubber match at 12 p.m.
