STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Towson University baseball team faced Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series at Joe Nathan Field.
Towson (10-14, 2-10 CAA) got on the board first in the rubber match before Stony Brook (6-18, 4-8 CAA) flipped the scored to a one-run lead in home half of the second. The Tigers tied the game in the fourth before falling behind by one after the bottom half. The Black & Gold added one run each in the sixth and eighth innings to secure their first series win in league play this season.
Key Stats:
- Towson pitcher Joey Tuttoilmondo (1-1) earned the win, tossing 2.1 shutout frames with one hit allowed. Tuttoilmondo struck out three batters. Jacob Whiteman (2) picked up the save with one relief frame.
- Stony Brook pitcher Aidan Colagrande (2-1) took the loss after allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks in 1.1 relief innings.
How it Happened:
- AJ Kolb drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the second inning.
- Stony Brook's Coffey hit an RBI single with two runners on to tie the game. With runners on the corners now, the Seawolves completed a double steal to take a one-run edge.
- Max D'Alessandro led off the top of the fourth inning with a double to left center. After Josh Janove's sacrifice bunt moved him to third base, Nick LoBello singled to right to tie the game.
- Szepek doubled to right field with a runner on in the home half, giving the Seawolves a 3-2 lead.
- D'Alessandro tied the game again with a two-out home run to left in the sixth inning.
- With two runners on in the eighth, LoBello doubled down the left field line to drive in one.
- The Tigers stranded one Stony Brook base runner over the final two frames to secure their first CAA series win this season.
Inside the Numbers:
- In the series, LoBello batted .545 (6-for-11) with two doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored. He now has six multi-hit games this season.
- D'Alessandro hit his fourth home run this season and is now tied for seventh among conference leaders.
- Whiteman improved his season ERA to 2.65 in his seventh relief appearance of the year.
