Towson Tennis Drops Hard-Fought 4-3 Match To Stony Brook

TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University women's tennis team lost a hard-fought 4-3 decision to
Stony Brook in a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday afternoon at the Tiger Tennis Complex. The match took three and half hours to complete.
 
Towson (7-9, 1-4 CAA) earned the doubles point with victories on courts 1 and 2. The Tigers top duo of Kiersten Tambe and Chandrè Boshoff were victorious at No. 1 – winning 6-2. After Stony Brook won on court 3, the home team clinched the point with a 7-5 victory by sophomores Aubrey Carper and Chloe Courtnage at No. 2.
 
Stony Brook (6-11, 3-4 CAA) tied the score at 1-all with a victory on court 1 then took a 2-1 advantage with a win at No. 2 singles.
 
The other four matches went to three sets.  
 
Towson tied the match at 2-all when Carper won at No. 6 singles – taking the deciding set 6-1.
 
Boshoff (No. 3) won a second set tie breaker, 15-13 to force a third but dropped the deciding set as the Seawolves took 3-2 lead.
 
Ashira Murray battled back from down a set and 3-2 in the second to tie the match at 3-all. The junior improved to 11-4 in singles play this season, including a 6-0 record at No. 5.
 
However, seconds later Stony Brook clinched the match with a victory at No. 4. After dropping the opening set, Tamzin Pountney opened the second set with a service break to help even the match.    
 
"We fought really hard today," Towson head coach Jamie Peterson said. "We did a great job winning the doubles point but Stony Brook played very strong in singles and unfortunately we just fell short. Disappointing, but I am proud of the effort."

Next Match: 
Towson will play three matches next week beginning with a conference match versus Monmouth (2-11, 0-2 CAA) on Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Tennis Complex. The Tigers also have matches at Loyola (Wednesday) and at home versus UNCW (Friday).
