Monmouth Tops Women’s Basketball in Tigers' Final Road Test

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Towson University women's basketball team faced Monmouth on Friday night in its final road contest of the regular season.
 
Towson (16-13, 9-8 CAA) took a 38-37 lead into halftime over Monmouth (19-10, 12-6 CAA), led by Masyn Marchbanks and India Johnston with 12 each. After scoring 21 in the first half, Monmouth's GiGi Gamble followed with 20 in the second, leading the Hawks to an 83-77 win.

  • Masyn Marchbanks hit the Tigers' first two field goals of the game. Her layup just over four minutes in put the Tigers up 6-2.
  • Gamble hit a jumper in the paint with 3:06 to go in the first, giving the Hawks their first lead at 9-8.
  • Kayla Morris and India Johnston led the Tigers with three points each over the final minutes of the quarter as the Monmouth took an 18-16 lead into the break.
  • Johnston's jumper with 5:20 to go in the half gave the Tigers the lead again at 26-25.
  • The Hawks followed with an 8-0 run to go ahead by seven with 3:08 left in the half.
  • Johnston (5) and Semaya Turner (4) combined for nine points in the final minutes of the quarter as the Tigers took a 38-37 lead into the half.
  • After scoring two in the first half, Thalia Shepard scored 13 of the Tigers' 19 points of the third quarter. The Tigers took a 57-54 lead into the fourth.
  • On their way to a 65-65 score with 6:26 to go, the teams traded the lead five times.
