TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team hosted Monmouth in the second game of a three-game, Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series on Saturday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.
Towson (5-6, 0-2 CAA) went ahead with one run in the second inning before Monmouth (4-7, 2-0 CAA) claimed the lead with two runs in the next frame. A two-run shot in the seventh added to the Hawks lead as the Tigers stranded four base runners over the final three innings to fall 4-1.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Liam Diehl (0-2) took the loss after allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks in 5.0 innings pitched. Diehl struck out five.
- Monmouth starter Alec Couture (1-1) earned the win after allowing one earned run on four hits in 5.0 innings of work. Couture struck out five and hit one batter.
How it Happened:
- Keldrin Rodriguez led off the bottom of the second with a single to center field. After stealing second, Nick LoBello singled up the middle, scoring Rodriguez.
- Monmouth answered with two runs on two hits in the next frame. After a one-out triple to center field, Richter beat the throw at home on a fielder's choice to tie the game. Later in the frame, a double steal with runners on the corners gave the Hawks a one-run lead.
- Saucke hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, adding to the Monmouth lead.
- The Tigers stranded four base runners over the final three frames to fall 4-1 in game two.
