Softball Earns a Midweek Victory Over Coppin State

TOWSON, Md.  – The Towson University softball team hosted Coppin State for the second time this season on Wednesday. The Tiger bats were active all day as Towson defeated the Eagles 10-6.
 
Key Stats:
  • Kaci Benton had a three-hit day with a pair of RBIs.
  • Alyssa Myint hit 2-4 with a triple batting leadoff for the first time this season.
  • Taylor Broadbent hit a triple and led all players with three RBIs.
  • Kinsley Peek reached base twice and hit a two-run single.
  • Amanda Medina earns her fifth win of the season after starting and pitching 3.0 innings allowing six hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts.
  • Mikaela Guy pitched 2.1 scoreless in relief allowing only one hit with one strikeout.
  • Emily Quintero receives the loss for the Eagles after allowing nine hits and six earned runs over 6.0 innings.
How it Happened:
  • Alyssa Myint tripled to lead off the bottom of the 1st for Towson, the next batter Kaci Benton singled her home to open the scoring. After Mackenzie Gorczyca reached as well, Taylor Broadbent hit the second triple of the inning to put Towson 3-0 up.
  • Coppin State responded with a five-hit top of the 2nd to tie the game 3-3.
  • Kinsley Peek walked and Myint singled with one out in the bottom of the 2nd. Then Benton singled before getting in and safely escaping a rundown that allowed both runners to score making it 5-3 after two.
  • After a 1-2-3 3rd from Amanda Medina, Broadbent walked and Jada Wade singled to once again put two on with one out for Towson. Peek drove in both with a single to push the lead to 7-3.
  • After another scoreless inning from Medina, the Tigers capitalized on three Eagle errors in the bottom of the 4th to make it 10-3 entering the 5th.
  • It was Coppin's turn to capitalize on errors as the Eagles scored three in the top of the 5th to cut the Tiger's lead to four.
  • Benton recorded her third hit of the game in the bottom of the 5th but Towson was unable to increase the lead further.
  • Mikaela Guy allowed a one-out hit in the top of the 6th but the next batter lined into a double play to end the inning.
  • Guy wouldn't allow another base runner for the rest of the game as Towson held on for a 10-6 win.
 
Up Next:
Towson stays home this weekend to host Hofstra for a weekend CAA series. Game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, April 3.
