MACON, Ga. – The Towson University baseball team faced Mercer on Saturday afternoon in the second game of a three-game series.
Mercer (27-12) went ahead 4-0 through the first three innings before Towson (15-21) tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Despite chances from both teams, the score remained 4-4 after nine innings. After holding the Tigers scoreless in the top of the tenth, Mercer's Katz hit a walkoff home run for the 6-4 win in game two.
Key Stats:
- Towson pitcher Ryder Jeske (2-2) took the loss after allowing two earned runs on three hits in 3.2 relief innings. Jeske struck out three and walked six batters.
- Mercer pitcher Braydon Kersey (2-0) earned the win after tossing 1.0 hitless, shutout frames with one strikeout.
How it Happened:
- Mercer scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second to take an early lead.
- Titan Kamaka hit an RBI bunt single in the third to add the Bears' fourth run.
- Nick LoBello hit a one-out double in the fifth and moved to third on a groundout. Ethan Brand followed with an RBI single to score LoBello. After Brand moved to second on a wild pitch, Brady Nathison drove him home with an RBI single to left field. Nich Francuzenko hit a subsequent two-run homer to right field to tie the game at four.
- Despite chances from both teams, the final four innings went scoreless, sending the game to extras.
- After Towson failed to score in the top of the tenth, Chris Katz hit a two-run homer to right to give the Bears a 6-4 extra-inning win in game two.
