TOWSON, Md.  – The Towson University softball team faced Monmouth in the second of a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series on Saturday. The Tigers fell the Hawks for the second straight game by a 6-3 scoreline to seal the series in Monmouth's favor.

Key Stats:
  • Alyssa Myint had a three-hit day with two doubles and a triple.
  • Mackenzie Gorczyca recorded two hits and scored two runs.
  • Kinsley Peek walked twice to become the first Tiger to record 20 walks on the year.
  • Jessa Pieters receives the loss after starting and allowing four hits and two runs over 3.0 innings.
  • Amanda Medina pitched 3.0 innings in relief and Chelsey Farthing threw a perfect inning of relief as well.
  • Carah Sumpter earns the win after allowing seven hits and one earned run in a 7.0 inning complete game performance. Sumpter also hit a solo homerun at the plate.

How it Happened:
  • Towson Starter Jessa Pieters and Monmouth's Carah Sumpter both started the game with scoreless 1st and 2nd innings.
  • The Hawks put two in scoring position with one out in the top of the 3rd. Hannah Lebert threw a runner out at home for the second out, but Monmouth would go on to score two runs in the inning.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the 3rd, Alyssa Myint tripled to right center and an error on the throw to 3rd allowed Myint to score to cut the deficit in half.
  • The Hawks responded with a solo homerun in the top of the 4th to take a 3-1 lead.
  • In the home half of the 4th, Mackenzie Gorczyca hit and infield single and made her way to third base with two outs before a wild pitch allowed her to score to once again make it a one-run game.
  • After a scoreless 5th inning, Monmouth brought home three-runs in the top of the 6th to extend its lead to 6-2.
  • Towson loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 6th. A Kallissa Coats groundout brought home one run, but the Tiger's were unable to get any closer in the inning.
  • Myint's third extra base hit of the game couldn't spark a 7th inning rally as the Tigers lost 6-3 to the Hawks.
