BALTIMORE, Md. – The Towson University baseball team capped their 10-game road stand against UMBC on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.
Towson (15-23) went ahead 4-0 early over UMBC (19-16) after three innings. Both teams added a run over the next four innings before the Retrievers tied the game at five with three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. UMBC's Ehi Okojie dropped a single into left center field in the bottom of the 11
th to plate the winning run for UMBC on their home field.
Key Stats:
- Towson pitcher Dutch DeProspero (2-6) took the loss, allowing one earned run on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched. DeProspero struck out one and walked one.
- UMBC pitcher Sergio Droz (1-3) earned the win after tossing 2.1 shutout frames. Droz struck out three and walked one.
How it Happened:
- Following Max D'Alessandro's leadoff double in the second inning, Coy Allman drove him in from third base on a sacrifice fly two batters later.
- Brian Heckelman hit an RBI double in the top of the third to add one run to Towson's lead, while advancing Brady Nathison to third base. Keldrin Rodriguez followed with a two-run single to right, putting the Tigers ahead by four runs.
- UMBC's Anthony Muscuilli scored from second base on a throwing error to get the Retrievers on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
- In the top of the seventh, Nick LoBello scored from third on a double play groundout, giving the Tigers a 5-1 edge.
- The Retrievers scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth to get within a run with one to play.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Danny Orr hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game for UMBC.
- With two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 11th inning, Ehi Okojie dropped a single into left center field to give UMBC a 6-5 win in extra innings.
