TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team hosted Stony Brook in the opening game of a three-game series on Friday afternoon at Brooks Robinson Field.
Stony Brook's (15-23, 11-11 CAA) and Towson's (15-24, 4-15 CAA) offenses were hot to start the game as the Seawolves held a 7-5 lead through two innings. With one out to go in the second, the game entered a weather delay. Out of the break, Stony Brook added five runs in the sixth and three in the eighth, while holding the Tigers scoreless in the home half to take the series opener 15-5.
Key Stats:
- Towson pitcher Aden Knowles (1-4) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in 2.0 innings pitched. Knowles struck out one batter faced.
- Stony Brook pitcher Aidan Colagrande (3-1) earned the win after tossing 2.1 shutout innings. Colagrande surrendered two hits and one walk.
How it Happened:
- Stony Brook hitters started the game with seven straight hits, scoring six runs in the first inning.
- Keldrin Rodriguez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the home half to score the Tigers' first run of the game. Nick LoBello hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it a 6-2 game.
- Nicholas Dromboski hit a solo home run in the second inning to extend the Seawolves lead to five.
- Brian Heckelman hit an RBI single and Max D'Alessandro hit a two-run double later in the inning to make it a 7-5 game. Before the final out in the inning was retired, the game entered a 1:50 weather delay.
- Out of the delay, the scoring slowed before SBU added five runs on five hits and one Towson error in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 12-5.
- Scott Gell hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth, extending the Seawolves' lead to ten.
- The Tigers went down in order in the home half, falling 15-5 after eight innings.
