Nathison Plays Hero in Walk-Off Win over Stony Brook

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team hosted Stony Brook in the second game of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon at Brooks Robinson Field at John B. Schuerholz Park.
 
In a game with two ties and four lead changes, Towson (16-24, 4-15 CAA) and Stony Brook (15-24, 11-12 CAA) were knotted at six heading to the ninth inning. The Seawolves scored in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch. Yariel Rodriguez and Ethan Brand each got on base with one out in the bottom of the inning, before Brady Nathison hit a walk-off home run to left field, giving the Tigers a 9-7 win in game two.
Key Stats:­­
  • Towson pitcher Jacob Whiteman (2-2) earned the win after allowing one earned run on two walks surrendered in 1.0 inning pitched.
  • Stony Brook pitcher Christian Martinez (1-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in 4.1 relief innings. Martinez struck out two and walked two batters.
 
How it Happened:
  • With two runners on in the top of the first inning, Scott Gell hit an RBI single to left center, scoring the first run of the game.
  • Brady Nathison scored in the home half on an error to tie the game. Stony Brook's Worley threw AJ Kolb's bunt into right field, allowing Nathison to score from second base.
  • Mike Cervoni hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the second, reclaiming a one-run lead for the Seawolves.
  • Stony Brook added to their lead in the third as Doughty scored from third on a muffed ground ball at first base.
  • The Tigers scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to claim a 4-3 lead. Yariel Rodriguez, Nathison and Keldrin Rodriguez each recorded one RBI in the frame.
  • The Seawolves took the lead back at 6-4 with three runs on four hits and an error in the top of the fifth.
  • With two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth, K. Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to center, getting the Tigers back within one.
  • K. Rodriguez recorded his third RBI of the game on a double to center field in the bottom of the eighth, tying the game at six.
  • Stony Brook's Villani scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to retake the lead at 7-6.
  • With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Y. Rodriguez hit an infield single, followed by Ethan Brand's walk. Nathison hit a homer over the left field fence to deliver a 9-7 walk-off win to the Tigers.
Inside the Numbers:­­
  • Nathison finished the day 4-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored. It marks the second four-hit game of his career and the first since April 6, 2024, vs. Northeastern.
  • K. Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. He now leads the team with nine muti-RBI games this season.
