TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team hosted Stony Brook in the final game of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Brooks Robinson Field at John B. Schuerholz Park.
After scoring one run in the first, Stony Brook (16-24, 12-12 CAA) scored multiple runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings. Towson (16-25, 5-16 CAA) was held scoreless while leaving six runners on base in the game to fall 10-0 in seven innings in the series finale.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Liam Diehl (1-5) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Diehl struck out three and walked three batters faced.
- Stony Brook pitcher Dylan Henshaw (1-0) took the loss after tossing 4.0 shutout innings to begin the game. Henshaw struck out four and walked two batters.
How it Happened:
- After a leadoff walk in the first, Nick Zampieron moved to third on a groundout and subsequent wild pitch. Carson's single through the right side scored Zampieron, giving Stony Brook a one-run lead.
- Carson hit a solo homer in the top of the third to add to the Seawolves' lead. Later in the frame, Matthew Jackson doubled in the right center gap to score two before he was gunned down at third base to end the inning.
- In the fourth, Zampieron hit an RBI single through the right side. Later in the frame, Scott Gell hit a bases-clearing double to right center, giving Stony Brook an 8-0 lead.
- The Seawolves added two runs on two hits in top of the sixth, extending the lead to ten runs.
- The Tigers left one base runner stranded over the sixth and seventh innings, as they fell 10-0 in seven innings.
