Towson Baseball tops George Washington in Tuesday Matinee

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team faced George Washington on Tuesday afternoon at Brooks Robinson Field at John B. Schuerholz Park.
 
Towson's (17-25) offense put the Tigers up early over George Washington (17-26), as they posted seven runs in the second and three in the third. The Tigers added two runs in the fifth, and held the Revolutionaries scoreless in the final two frames, to win 12-0 on their home field.
Key Stats:­­
  • Towson pitcher Vincent Salvo (3-0) earned the win, tossing 3.0 shutout frames. Salvo walked two and hit one batter.
  • George Washington starter Brad Marks (0-3) took the loss after allowing seven runs, two earned, on six hits in 2.0 innings pitcher. Marks walked one and hit one batter.
 
How it Happened:
  • The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on six hits and three errors. Coy Allman reached first with the bases loaded on a fielder's choice, while two runs scored on an errant throw from the third basemen. Yariel Rodriguez followed with an RBI bunt single to add to the lead. Later in the frame, Brady Nathison hit an RBI double to left center field. Nathison scored on an errant throw for the Tigers' fifth run of the frame. Keldrin Rodriguez capped the inning with a two-run double to center field, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead.
  • Nick LoBello came to the plate with runners on the corners in the third and drove in a run on a bunt single. Nathison followed with an RBI single to left center before AJ Kolb drove in LoBello on an infield single to short.
  • Y. Rodriguez hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth. LoBello followed with a triple to right center field before scoring on Kolb's RBI groundout to the pitcher.
  • George Washington stranded three runners on base in the final two innings as they fell 12-0 in seven innings.
Inside the Numbers:­­
  • Y. Rodriguez finished the day batting 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He hit his first home run of the season in the fifth inning.
  • K. Rodriguez batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Rodriguez has a team-leading ten multi-RBI games and extending his hitting streak to six games, the longest active streak among Tiger players.
  • In his last four games, Nathison is batting 9-for-16 with a double, home run, six RBIs and four runs scored.
 
On Deck:
The Tigers head to Long Island for a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series against the Hofstra Pride. Game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday.
